A recent article touched on a worrisome, stagnant US 32% of solid waste recycling rate. Perhaps as a result of this statistic, the 2021 infrastructure investment and jobs Act is providing $100 million in new grant money for the EPA’s “pollution prevention” P2 grant program.
As it turns out, the EPA defines P2 as “any practice that reduces, eliminates, or prevents pollution at its source prior to recycling, treatment or disposal.” The scope of these activities is broad, with reuse of cardboard fitting in nicely. Packaging materials make up 28% of U.S. solid waste.
As reported in Packaging World, by using Box Latches™ and Clip & Stacks, WSP and REDARC are saving time and money for both companies.
P2 grant eligibility includes state governments, colleges, universities, and federally-recognized tribes. For readers who would like to identify, develop, document, and share P2 best innovation and management practices under this grant program, we are here to help. Ask us to teach you how to use the Box Latch™ Products Savings and ROI Calculator and include its use as part of your application. If continued as previously, individual grants for FY2022-23 should be in the range of $40,000 – $500,000 for the next two-year funding period.
