The Solution = Box Latch™

"Green" conscious people and companies are just beginning to realize how much packaging tape costs the environment. Full landfills, high recycling costs, and the repetitive cost of new tape and boxes hurts the bottom line.

The mission of the Box Latch™ is to change the way the world closes and re-uses boxes.

Join the Box Latch™ Movement

Close boxes without having to search for that misplaced tape roll or taping gun
Avoid the mess of sticky tape that adheres to itself or you, instead of the box
Eliminate the hassle of searching for the end of the tape, only to have it tear before it is freed from the roll
Open and close boxes repeatedly to view contents without slitting and replacing the tape
Unpack boxes without a sharp item (last resort - a key) to break the seal
Preserve boxes that often tear when you fail to cut the tape with a sharp object
Stop damaging the box flaps as you repeatedly fold them inward; and/or
Decrease the space needed to store boxes that now can be flattened with ease

Say “HELLO” to the Box Latch™
Eliminate all these difficulties and irritations by simply inserting this remarkable device to close boxes.
To re-open, simply slide it out.

Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions by people interested in Box Latch™

  1. Can Box Latch™ Save Money?

"YES!" - By If you or your company want to eliminate your dependence on packaging tape and are eager to change the way you close and re-use boxes, Box Latch™ is your solution to reducing costs. Why?
All too often, cutting tape on boxes damages the underlying items for personal use or for repackaging, retail, resale or redistribution. Here alone the savings are huge!
Injuries to individuals using box cutters or knives are eliminated because there is no longer a need to use sharp tools to open boxes.
Aesthetically unappealing, damaged boxes hamper sales of products. Instead of appearing brand new, customers wonder what’s wrong with the contents in a banged-up box. This is particularly important when the integrity of the box is essential to the perceived value of the item.
Box Latches™ can be re-used for years. This means they are a one-time purchase instead of a consumable, like tape.
It is easier and requires less time to remove and reinsert eco-friendly Box Latches™ than to slit and reapply sticky tape. The result, lower labor costs.
Box Latches™ reduce box costs by extending their useful lifespan. Additionally, the value of boxes sold for recycling without multiple tape layers may be enhanced.

  2. The Environmental Impact: What Makes the Box Latch™ so environmentally GREEN?

Research has shown that 90% of corrugated boxes are used once and 30% are not recycled at all, instead, they end up dumped in landfill space.

The Box Latch™ is recognized as a remarkably GREEN product because 1) it is made from recycled plastic, 2) if it outwears its usefulness, it can be reground and recycled, 3) its simple closing mechanism allows for the re-use of boxes, thus, reducing the numbers that end up in landfills and 4) it avoids the need for adhesives. Boxes devoid of them are more valuable than taped boxes when sent to recycling processors.

NO adhesives means NO environmental contaminants.

  3. Multiple Uses: How many times can I anticipate using the same Box Latch™?

Since they are made of durable, recycled plastic, we expect that they will be reused hundreds of times. This is one of the reasons the Box Latch™ is a great buy!

  4. Application Difficulty Factor: Is Box Latch™ difficult to use?

No!  Box Latch™ is very easy to use and re-use!  Watch the easy pictorial instructions on our home page.

  5. How It Works: What is it about this patent pending product that makes it work?

o The animation on our home page depicts the Box Latch’s™ I-Beam design. The top level is slightly arched and is enhanced by a set of “gripper” teeth. These fortify its latching capabilities. The lower level is also slightly arched and flexible. It provides upward pressure to hold box flaps firmly in place. This combination and the gap between the two levels allow the edges of the Box Latches™ to be inserted onto various thicknesses of corrugated material with efficient holding power. For longer/larger boxes, two or three Box Latches™ may be used on the top and/or bottom.

  6. Closing Both Sides: Should Box Latches™ be inserted on both tops and bottoms of boxes?

It depends on whether or not you want to flatten your boxes after each use. If the answer to this question is yes, by all means use them on both sides. If the answer is no", we are not breaking down our boxes to store or recycle them,” it may make sense just to use them on the top.

  7. Stacked Boxes: Will latched boxes remain flat when stacked?

Yes, because the Box Latch™ itself is almost flat. Unless the boxes you are using are filled to capacity, there is usually enough “give” between the box flaps and the underlying contents as well as within the cardboard itself so that you can stack and store multiple layers of boxes effectively.

  8. Can I use multiple Box Latches™ on a single box?

Yes. That's the wonderful simplicity of Box Latch™. A single Box Latch™ holds most standard sized boxes securely, but for very large or heavy boxes multiple Box Latches™ may be used.

  9. Box Wall Thickness: Does the thickness of the corrugated material matter?

No. Box Latch™ 2.0 was designed to tightly fit onto and close a variety of flap thicknesses. This includes everything from narrow single walled boxes, like E-flutes, to many double walled boxes, like A-B flutes. No box is exactly the same as another, however. As a result, the Box Latch’s™ closing capabilities may be subject to differences in material (i.e. virgin vs. regrind corrugate).

  10. Custom Promotional Labeling: Can we buy customized Box Latches™ with our company’s logo on them?

Yes, please see the “Custom Label Your Box Latches™” category (click “Buy Now” above) and upload your desired image.  Once you place an order, we will print and apply your customized labels to each Box Latch™.

  11. Applying Product Identification: Can I apply labels with lot or serial numbers, bar codes, and/or color dots for easy identification directly to the Box Latch™?

Yes, the use of customized product identification adhesives on the Box Latch™ itself, rather than the box, provides manufacturers and shippers with a multitude of options for placing identification on a durable plastic material unaffected by moisture. Moreover, this doesn’t deface the boxes

  12. Shipping: Can Box Latch™ boxes be shipped via common carrier?
